Guidelines of School Free Travel
The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) is administered by the NSW Department of Transport. Baxter’s Bus Lines issues bus passes to school children on behalf of the Department of Transport in accordance with Government guidelines. Students will be automatically issued with a new pass at the beginning of each year, and are not required to reapply, unless they change address, change school, are moving from Year 2 to Year 3(or from Year 6 to Year 7 if attending the same school), or the government changes the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
All infant students (Kindergarten, Year 1 or Year 2) are eligible for free travel irrespective of the distance from home to school.
Primary or High school students are eligible for free travel if the distance from home to school is greater than 1.6 kilometres (Primary) or 2 kilometres (High) by radial distance.
If the student is ineligible by radial distance, applications can be made directly to the Department of Transport on walking distance, safety or health/medical grounds (evidence must be supplied).
How to apply for a Free Travel bus pass
The application form must be obtained from your school, filled out and returned to your school for verification. The school will then forward the application to our office, and once processed will be returned to the school for collection. If you are not eligible for free travel a letter will be forwarded directly to your home address.
Code of Conduct
All students traveling on free travel bus passes must adhere to the Code of Conduct, a copy of which is issued with your application
